Fossil Dig

July 7, 2020 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Bring your family out to the Russell Wildlife Area by 10:30 am on July 7th to take a hike with the naturalist and search for fossils of plants and animals that lived here long ago. We will meet in the shelter house and then hike to a fossil site. You will find fossils such as crinoids, brachiopods and even bryozoans! We will dig until noon. Afterwards, you are welcome to join us for the “Picnic in the Park” (bring your own lunch) at the shelter house.
* Bring water to drink and a hat to shade your face.
* Each person will receive a bag to hold fossils and an ID sheet (you may keep a few fossils).
* Please maintain social distancing at all times.
* Each participant will be asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding Covid 19.
* Pre-registration is needed to participate. Sign up by calling (641)673-9327 Ext. 2 or email decook@mahaskacounty.org.
