Blessing of the Animals

October 13, 2019 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

The community is invited to participate in a continuation of the tradition of the blessing the animals, by bringing pets to the lawn at St. James’ Episcopal Church on Sunday, October 13, at 10:30 a.m. for a blessing.

The church writes: “When God made all the living creatures in Genesis 1, he declared that they were good and he blessed them. Blessings are a statement of good will and an affirmation of the rightness of a person or a thing. Animals are one of our strongest connections with nature, but as with all of nature, it is not there just to use and extract what we want from it. We should care for nature and seek for it to be healthy and prosperous. It is appropriate that we offer a blessing to these animals which are close to us, and even if they do not understand the words, they can know the good will that is offered to them.”
