    Hosted by the Oskaloosa Dog Park, the 2017 Dog Splash, some off-leash fun in the pool, will be held at Edmundson Pool, 1405 South F Street, Oskalosa (in Edmundson Park).  Cost: 1 dog it is $10 and for the 2nd dog it is $5. 2 dogs per handler.

    On August 21, a solar eclipse will cross the continental United States. In Iowa, people will be able to experience a partial eclipse with more than 90% of the sun in the moon’s shadow. Thanks to a partnership with the Iowa Space Consortium and the Iowa 4H program, kids will learn how eclipses work, make an eclipse viewer, view the solar eclipse, and learn about sun safety. Snacks will be provided.

    Pre-registration is required. Call 641.673.9327 to sign up. This event is for kids ages 9-12.

    The Southern Iowa Fair Rodeo will be held in the new outdoor arena (located on the northwest corner) of the Southern Iowa Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa. Tickets are adults, $10/each; 10 and under, $5/each; children 5 and under free. Attendees are welcome to bring personal lawn chairs.

    Tassel Ridge Winery is having a special wine tasting event with winery owner Bob Wersen. Wine tasting in the cellar begins at 6 p.m.; dinner seating will be at 6:30. Mr. Wersen will discuss how four of the vintages of Tassel Ridge Iowa Marquette were made and tastings of each will take place. Attendees will get to select the vintage they like best to pair with their entree at dinner. Dinner will consist of salad, roasted beef tenderloin, roasted fingerling potatoes, spicy pecan green beans, and poached pear tart. Each course will have a special wine pairing. $50 per person plus tax; Harvest Club Member and 1 guest, $45 per person plus tax. Includes dinner, wine pairing, and gratuity.

    Learn how to rear monarch caterpillars into butterflies on Thursday, August 31 at 7 pm. This event will be held at the Mahaska County Extension office, 212 North I Street, Oskaloosa. It is hosted by the Mahaska County Master Gardeners. It is however open to anyone (of all ages) interested in the topic and there is no fee to attend.
