    Women of the community are invited to attend Tuesday Evening Coffee Break at 1st Christian Reformed Church, 815 N. 11th St. in Oskaloosa. Classes continue weekly at the Church to include an evening meal at 5:45 followed by Bible study 6:15-7:15 for women and Bible stories, games & crafts for their children. The group will be studying the book of Proverbs. (Nursery can be arranged for infants.) Call Deb at 660-8290.

    You too can become a Master Gardener if you are interested in learning about plants and gardening, attend the training program, provide 40 hours of service, and are willing to help others.

    A training will be offered this fall in Mahaska County on Tuesday evenings (September 5 to November 12) 6:30-9:30 pm.  Fee is $195.  The registration fee covers the cost of all materials.  Master Gardener training session topics include:  Animal ecology, Botany,    Entomology (study of insects), Fruit culture,  Herbaceous ornamentals, Home Landscape Design, Houseplants, IPM/Pesticides, Landscape plants, Plant pathology, Soils, Turfgrass Management, Vegetables, and Weed Management. Trainees also attend a class on Iowa State University campus Saturday October 7 or 21.

    To encourage early enrollment and insure a minimum class size the Mahaska County Master Gardeners will award a $45 scholarship to the first 6 enrollees to pay the class fee for Mahaska County Master Gardener training in 2017.  To register visit the Iowa Master Gardener website and apply online or visit the Mahaska County Extension office (212 North I Street)

    Andy Clark will be presenting “The Incredible Music Heritage of Oskaloosa” on Thursday, October 26th starting at 6:00pm in the Musco Technology Center on William Penn’s campus.  Clark has extensive knowledge about the famous musicians from the Oskaloosa area and the successes of the City Band.  His presentation will cover how musicians from a southeastern Iowa town made a global impact on the music community.

    Let Chef Michael take you away to foreign lands with wonderful cuisine!  Please join Book Vault and the Community Wellness Group in a new endeavor.  Meeting at Book Vault once a month for 3 months, group members will chat a bout a pre-selected title while enjoying scrumptious foods that Chef Michael prepares.  The first title will be The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George.  The cost is $30 and includes a copy of the book and entrance to this limited seating three meeting “trip”.  The food will be wonderful, the discussion should be divine and of course, wine will be served.  Escape to Paris this fall while never having to pack your bags!  Meeting time will be 6:30 on Sept. 28, Oct. 26 and Nov. 16  Call 641-676-1777 to make your reservation for Paris!

That’s right, you’re a ghost, and P. T. Barnum, who is up to his usual tricks, is trying to include you in his latest scheme! But, what do you threaten a dead man with? Yes, someone finds a way to do him in. Who did it? The guy across the room? The lady across the table? Or, maybe you! Regardless, we promise you a great time at Dead! Like Me.

    Join Book Vault as Oskaloosa’s own Colleen will be teaching fifteen lucky attendees her tips and tricks for making all types of homemade breads!  Colleen is well versed in all types of bread baking, making most if not all of the bread for her busy family of four.  Baking bread is an at least weekly activity for her!  Cost for this class is $25 and will include instruction by Colleen, the cookbook Old Fashioned Bread Recipes, and samples to taste.  If you have always wanted to bake bread but were hesitant because of the complexity, come and learn from Colleen just how easy it can be!  Registrations must be paid for no later than Tuesday, October 24 by 5 pm.  Call 641-676-1777.
